Assistant News Director/Managing Editor
Duties
- Serves as a second-in-command to the station's news director, similar to a chief operating officer of an organization.
- Works to build a team committed to journalistic integrity in pursuit of ratings dominance in the market.
- Oversees day-to-day management of the newsroom and assists in coordinating news coverage on all of the station's platforms, with an increased focus on digital.
- Coordinates with the news director on the hiring, training and management of the news staff, including support personnel.
- Develops a news coverage blueprint and delivers daily critiques of the content and other digital products.
- Assigns staff to projects, monitors their progress and helps with the writing and production as necessary, ensuring the station's journalistic standards are met.
- Oversees equipment maintenance.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience Level
- A bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or a related field.
- Prior supervisory experience and experience in a newsroom.
- Familiarity with the software and specialized equipment used in a newsroom.
