Assignment Desk Chief/Assignment Manager

Duties

• Oversees the newsroom's assignment editors, who serve as the first point of contact for people calling in to the news department with questions and news tips.
• Manages this staff that actively collects story ideas for news segments, special reports and investigations.
• Mentors staff on research techniques and fact-checking tips to ensure the integrity of the information collected.
• Participates in editorial pitch sessions that decide which news stories to cover and how and whether content will be used in live newscasts or on digital platforms.

Qualifications

• A demonstrated passion for news and research and mentoring skills.

Experience Level

• A bachelor's degree in journalism, broadcast television or a related field.
• Prior television news experience and an aptitude for leadership.
• Strong background in journalism.
