Writer/Producer
Duties
- Researches and writes on-air news copy that on-air talent will deliver.
- Keeps informed of FCC rules and other regulations dictating acceptable content that don't violate decency or defamation laws.
- Maintains high journalistic standards and are keen to verify facts and vet sources.
- May be tasked with updating social media platforms and participating in various departmental meetings and station events.
Qualifications
- Good written and verbal skills as well as a proficiency in media production, broadcast systems and software and social networking skills are essential to this job.
Experience level
- Four-year college degree in journalism and experience working in a newsroom.
Stations that have designated writer/producers are usually the larger stations that have a greater mix of programming. They know how to write for radio - a skill in and of itself - and are adept at establishing a connection with the audience writing for the spoken. This is not an on-air position.
