Duties

  • Monitors different avenues for news tips, from the local and national newspapers, wire services and TV to the internet and police scanners.
  • Reports news stories on air.
  • Networks within the local community to develop contacts and potential news sources.
  • May be tasked with creating content for streaming and social media platforms.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

Experience level

  • A college education is preferred and at least one to three years of experience, either on-the-job or in college working for a college station or newspapers.

For stations with a big emphasis on news, there are jobs for news reporters, who also may be asked to anchor certain shows. Radio news reporters basically do the same things as journalists at newspapers and TV stations do, but it's for radio, and a different kind of writing style and delivery are required.
